THE FISH
The fish is a central Christian symbol; among the first Christians in ancient Greece the symbol was called Ichthys and was used as a sign of Jesus Christ, it being an acronym of the first letters in phrase “Jesus Christ Son of God our Saviour” (Iesous Christos Theou Hyios Soter).

In Hinduism the fish is the first incarnation of the God Vishnu and the name of his sister, the Mothergoddess Meenakshi, means “fisheye” implying “always awake”.

In ancient times the Fish also symbolised the subconscious mind, sexuality and fertility, the fish linking motherhood to the life giving sea.
